September 2022

Hi Everyone,

September! Here we are beginning the ninth month on our western calendar and the 7th month of the Hebrew calendar. A month symbolizing completion and perfection (only found in Messiah Jesus!) and a celebration of the newness – Rosh Hashanah - the Hebrew New Year, a new grade/school term, and a new season. For us here in New England and in many areas of our country it is the prime harvest month.

Let’s challenge ourselves to let the Lord work all these things together in us as we go about His business through MALTA and the other spheres of influence in which He has placed us. Let’s propose to recognize the fulfillment of all things through Jesus, celebrating the fact that He, indeed, makes all things new. Let’s begin this season in the sweet presence of the King as committed workers ready to Harvest as He prompts and empowers us in the fields of our lives.

Co-Laboring in Christ,

Lori

"Don’t you have a saying, 'It’s still four months until harvest?' I tell you, open your eyes! Look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest right now!"

John 4:35

UPDATES:

Those of you who have been Street Ministry Volunteers in Groton / New London for the last several years will remember Mike C. who had a place in the campsite in the woods behind Faith Lutheran Church. PRAISE THE LORD! Mike is now all moved into his place and loving life.Through an ad on our website we asked for brand-new air conditioners for him (and another gentleman housed from the woods almost two years ago). The Gleanings Group of Groton Bible Chapel donated two a.c.’s the next day! If you would like to send a card to Mike, text me at (860) 373-3975 and I will give you his address. Mike had some beautiful stuff in storage and so his place is pretty full. Volunteers and staff from MALTA stayed in close touch with Mike all of these last 9 months to cheer him on, encouraging him through the arduous processes of a good but complicated system. He works a good job, knows Jesus and has shown great civic responsibility as he completely cleaned up his campsite and helped remove the remains of others in cooperation with the Town of Groton.

Please pray for KAY – the Town is going forward with closing the camp soon. As mentioned before, she qualifies for housing and has family support. Mental illness prevents her from seriously engaging us or just about anyone anymore. But God is ABLE! And we can pray for a breakthrough in her confusion. Amen.

ARE YOU A LANDLORD OR DO YOU KNOW ANY? Housing is SO scarce here in New London County. We can help pair individuals and families who are facing or experiencing homeless through agencies that would see that the rent is subsidized or covered completely. Please call me with or for more information.

PLEASE PRAY for the following individuals who are facing or experiencing Homelessness. They are trying to get work, childcare, and housing!:

  • Ramia and her four children

  • Rebecca & her partner and their 3 special needs boys

  • Michael and his soon to be 5 year-old son

  • Autumn & Angel

“TAKE THE PLUNGE!” THE 23rd ANNUAL SAMARITAN SWIM is scheduled to take place on New Year's Day 2023 at Noon, on Eastern Point Beach in Groton. We are currently taking sign-ups for registration. Feel free to contact me. A separate email announcing details with a hyperlink to register and more will be up and running later this month.

HELP MALTA SHARE OUR GOOD WORK WITH THE COMMUNITY AND HELP US GAIN SUPPORT TO CONTINUE! I would LOVE the opportunity to come to speak to your group at church, in your business, club, association or school, any time, any day off the week (even the 7 am meetings!). Got a friend or relative who is interested in community service through a civic association? Feel free to share my contact info with them. We need to get the word out and get ongoing support in!

NEEDS:

  • A larger regular monthly donor base. Please consider or share this with others.

  • Walmart and Cumberland Farms (for gas) gift cards in $25 and $50 amounts
