In 2002, at a time when there were no area shelters, Malta leadership was inspired to provide housing for those ready to transition away from life on the streets in Groton and New London. We then purchased what came to be known as Malta House.  Since that time, a wonderful shelter emerged in New London to serve the homeless.  The New London Homeless Hospitality Center, along with other groups and agencies, is doing an excellent job with the immediate goal of providing shelter and resources to guide individuals into housing, employment and services needed.

After recognizing this, and with much prayer and consideration, the Malta Board of Directors concluded that our season of providing temporary housing has passed. Because of this, we are currently in the process of selling the Malta House. We believe that our focus moving forward is to continue on with our basic mission to go out in love and serve individuals living “on the street” and in shelters who are in basic need. Malta will continue to do so through volunteer teams bringing out food, clothing, toiletries, and other basic items with the love of Jesus, through the generosity of the community. Our goal is to expand Malta’s territory creating teams to interact with more individuals in the connecting communities between Groton/New London and Norwich, and along the eastern Connecticut shoreline.
